Across continental Europe, this vehicle is officially classified under the L6e Category (Light Quadricycle) pursuant to EU Regulation No 168/2013. It is legally distinct from standard cars (M1 category) and does not use the American "LSV" terminology.

Required Driving Licences (AM vs Class B)
An L6e light quadricycle does not require a full automobile driving licence, making it highly accessible across EU member states:
- AM Licence (Moped Category): The unified European standard for vehicles with a design speed ≤ 45 km/h. Requires passing a basic theoretical test and short practical training.
- Class B (Standard Car Licence): Anyone holding a valid European Class B car licence is automatically authorized to operate an L6e vehicle. No extra verification or tests are needed.
- No-Licence Exemptions: In specific markets like France, individuals born before January 1, 1988, are legally allowed to operate these vehicles without any driving licence or AM certificate.
Minimum Age Requirements by Country
While vehicle rules are harmonized by the EU, individual mainland countries set their own minimum driving ages, granting legal mobility to youth years before a full car licence:

Due to the maximum statutory speed of 45 km/h, L6e quadricycles operate under specific continental road rules to ensure safety:
- Highways & Expressways: Strictly PROHIBITED on European motorways (e.g., Autobahn, Autoroute, Autopista, Autostrada) and high-speed bypasses with minimum speed requirements.
- Urban & City Centers: 100% legal on all urban streets and residential areas. As zero/low-emission vehicles, they are fully exempt from combustion-engine bans in Low Emission Zones (LEZ).
- Insurance & Plates: Must display a rear moped-sized registration plate and carry mandatory third-party liability insurance (Responsabilité Civile) before hitting the road.
